I’m Nathan, proud founder of ‘Nathan’s Paw Care, Nathan’s Paw Trails and Nathan’s Paw Training’ and you’d be surprised to hear that, once upon a time, I didn't think training my dogs was important!

I was only familiar with ‘traditional’ dog training, which seemed unpleasant, and that didn't sit right with me. I had no idea that there was another way! A few textbooks and webinars later, I found myself needing a second pair of eyes to support me on my own journey.

As a dog owner: when it came to training my own dogs, I was far from perfect… but I knew that things had to change!

Learning from our mistakes, with the lack of training for our own dogs, I knew when we first got our new toy poodle puppy, Willow, that things had to be different this time. Owning three chihuahuas, all very vocal and frustrated on lead, was a constant challenge and I didn't want the same thing for Willow.

I discovered my love for dog training

I found a local dog training academy and signed up for an 8-week puppy training course… and I discovered my love for dog training!

I was fascinated by what we learnt at the puppy training classes and I wanted to use these newfound skills and knowledge. I enjoyed the classes so much that I offered to volunteer at the classes.

The start of my very own dog training career

It wasn’t long, after launching my dog walking/pet sitting business, that I was given the opportunity to take part in the 'Train the Trainer' course at the Academy. I found it all so insightful and interesting, and I knew that it would come in handy in my own career.

Lockdown offered a lightbulb moment and further opportunities

March 2021 came, and the pandemic lockdown hit; I had to completely shut down for two whole weeks! Everyone was saying “You need to 'pivot' your business and move online” but, unfortunately, I couldn't walk people's dogs from home. I decided to use this time to my advantage – I invested in the best dog training courses that I could find, to get the best results for dog owners… just like you.

Nathan’s Paw Training was born!

I knew that I really loved working with puppies… so I did a specialist puppy training course and, because my own dog suffered from separation anxiety, I wanted to help owners and their dogs with this awful struggle. I therefore signed up to renowned ‘SA’ trainer Julie Naismith's 'SA Pro Trainers Certification Course'.

Add a few more courses into the mix, a nudge from my unofficial mentor and… 'Nathan's Paw Training' was born!

Positive feedback and happy clients

Over the past few months, I have helped to train many owners and their new puppies. I have also started to support owners and their dogs struggling with separation anxiety, with my 1:1 training programme.
